The name of the film that I am analysing for my similar text is Psycho. The genre of the film that I chose is thriller. The director of the film Psycho is Alfred Hitchcock. The main actors in the film Psycho are; Anothony Perkins, Vera Miles and John Gavin. The target audience for Psycho is
Psycho is a 1960 film which is about a secretary who embezzles a significant amount of money from her employer's client in order to pay for her wedding, who then goes on the run to escape and tries to check into a hotel to hide out. While Marion (Woman who stole the money), is driving off in here car, she constantly keeps looking behind her to see if anyone is following her. After being stopped by the police, Marion realises that her car may be a way of her boss tracking her down and decides to change vehicles. While Marion is in the bathroom at the motel, she hears the door creak open slightly and a figure appears and yanks the curtains back. Marion notices that it is an old woman who is holding a large knife. The old woman attacks Marion and although Marion tires to escape, she is unsucessful and the killer continues the attack until Marion is left lifeless. The murderer then leaves. Marion's body is discovered by the motel manager Norman who drives to a nearby swamp near the motel and pushes the car inside there. This movie is similar to my movie as it is about a psychotic killer and a vulnerbale woman. Also, this film is similar to my film as the woman dies in the early scenes of the film and as the victim stole heaps of money for what she wanted which is one of the possibilities why my character Jade in my movie Desperate Measures dies. The movie psycho follows the genre convention of gory murder scenes. The opening sequence of the film is very successful in exploring the genre of the film to the target audience as the music is very dramatic and suspensful. Also, the display of the sequence with all of the names flowing in looks mysterious which could foreshadow that the genre is thriller/horror. Lastly, the fact that the opening sequence is black and white also connotes with danger and is more expected within the thriller genre. What i beleve would have made the opening sequence better would be if there were images and videos from the film so that the audience could have a better understanding of the genre and so that it is presented straightforward to them. What I have learnt from the opening sequence of psycho is that when making an opening sequence, the music is a key element as it represents the genre of the film. Another thing that I have learnt is that adding videos makes the genre appear more clear to the target audience and may come across as more appealing.
