I have been asked to make an opening sequence with titles for a film of my choice. My teacher gave us instructions of working in a group of either three or four and told us that we needed to come up with a name for our film and to discuss the characters. My teacher said that the film could be of any genre and could be about anything that my group and I wanted. My teacher gradually went on to inform us that we needed to plan the location and write a full synopsis for the whole film. My teacher then explained the film production process to the class and told us that we need to plan our filming effectively and beforehand so that it could be media rich. My class and I were told to consider the budget for our film, the script/dialogue, the cost, the cast/crew and to carry out any risk assessments needed. Also, my teacher told us that our opening title sequence could not last longer than two minutes, and he said that we needed to ensure that we use the key terms in our film which are; shot reverse shot, match on action and 180 degree rule. In each lesson, my group and I have been planning the location for our opening sequence, and have been discussing how we are going to use the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot in our work. My teacher also said that he needs people to be able to infer what the target audience is and what the genre of the film is just from watching the opening sequence, this therefore meant that the codes and conventions of the opening sequence had to be visible.
