The genre for my film is a hybrid of thriller/drama. I have chosen to have this genre for my film as I believe that it is appealing, exciting and very unpredictable. The target audience for my film are 18-20 year olds. My target audience may have various expectations of what the film is going to consist of because of the genre. As the genre of the film is thriller/drama, the audience may expect to see a lot of gory murder scenes. They may also expect to see a vulnerable victim who is most likely to be a female. The audience may also expect to hear slow dramatic music which alludes to suspense. The audience may also expect to see the opening scenes of the film shot in a dark and low lit environment to set the tone of the film. 

 

As a way of highlighting the importance of acknowledging the audience expectations, my group and I took the liberty of conducting a series of questions to ask people who fall within the target audience sector for our film.The video on the right demonstrates the expectations from the audience of my film in a visual aspect. The results from the video concludes that the majority of the people that we asked said that they expect to see murder scenes in a thriller film, they also expect to see violence and they enjoy the suspense of plot twists within films. The vast majority of the people that my group and I questioned were able to guess the genre of the film from the synopsis.
